Permanent Christmas Light Track

A permanent christmas light track is an aluminum channel fixed along the fascia or soffit that holds a roofline's LED lights in a straight line and hides the wiring, so the lights stay up all year and the ladder trip happens once. The same run does red and green in December, orange in October and plain warm white the rest of the year. Lumeva makes the track from extruded 6063-T5 aluminum, powder-coated to your trim color, at $3.11/ft from 100 ft.

Clipped Christmas lights come down because they look like Christmas lights. That is the whole problem a track solves: the channel is painted the color of the fascia it is screwed to, the cable runs inside it, and what you see from the kerb in July is a line of trim with nothing hanging off it.

The lights themselves are app-controlled, so the season is a setting rather than a trip to the roof. What follows is how to choose the profile, how much to buy, and where the real decisions are.

  • Extruded 6063-T5 aluminum, not plastic or 3D-printed
  • Powder-coated to any RAL Classic color before it ships
  • Wiring fully concealed — only the light shows
  • $3.11/ft, sold from 100 to 600 ft
  • 2-year warranty on Lumeva track and Lumeva lights

Why aluminum, and not plastic

The channel spends every day of its life in direct sun and every night contracting in the cold, screwed to a surface that moves. Extruded aluminum takes that; PVC and 3D-printed brackets are the parts that go brittle, sag between fixings and discolor where the sun hits hardest.

It also matters for the look. Aluminum takes a powder coat that stays the color it left in, which is the entire point of a track you are not going to take down.

  • 6063-T5 architectural extrusion, 6mm profile
  • Two pieces: a screw-down base and a snap-on cover over the wiring
  • Cuts with tin snips on site, so a run can be fitted to the elevation

Choose by the lights you already own

The track is punched for a specific light, so the profile follows the kit rather than the other way round. Govee sells two spacings and they are not interchangeable: the Original, v2 and Elite kits share one profile, and Pro is its own.

The Original profile comes in 2.7 ft pieces and the Pro profile in 3.3 ft pieces. If you have not bought lights yet, buy them first and then match the track to them.

How much to buy

Measure the runs you actually want lit, not the perimeter of the house. Most homes land between 120 and 300 ft: a front elevation on its own is usually about 120 to 150 ft, and a full wrap around the main roofline is about 200 to 300 ft.

Then add 5 to 10 percent. Mitred corners eat length, a miscut costs a piece, and being ten feet short at the top of a ladder in December is a second order and another wait. Track is sold in whole lengths and we round up to them at no extra cost, so the overage is small.

Matching it to your trim

The track is powder-coated to any RAL Classic color before it ships, which is what makes it read as part of the fascia rather than as hardware bolted to it. Bring the RAL code if you have it; if you do not, match it to the trim you are fixing it to rather than to the roof.

About two working days after you order, we email a proof of the color, lengths and quantities to sign off. Nothing is cut or coated until you approve it, which is also why a custom color cannot be returned for preference.

  • Any RAL Classic shade, coated before dispatch
  • A proof to approve before anything is made
  • Corner and end caps come in white or black, not coated to the track color

Installing it yourself, or not

The install is hand tools and a ladder: mark the line, screw the base to the fascia or soffit, clip the lights into the punched openings, snap the cover down over the wiring. Most of the skill is in the layout rather than the fixing.

The reasons to hire it out are height and complexity, not difficulty — a two-storey front, steep pitches, or a roofline with several changes of plane. We route installation requests to vetted installers who do this for a living.

Frequently asked questions

Can permanent christmas light track stay up all year?

That is what it is for. The channel is powder-coated to your trim color and holds the wiring inside it, so with the lights off it reads as a line of trim. The lights are app-controlled, so you change the season from your phone instead of from a ladder.

Will it look like Christmas lights in the summer?

Only if you leave them on a holiday scene. The same run does warm white for ordinary evenings, and the track itself is the color of the fascia it is screwed to. The whole reason to coat it rather than buy it white is so there is nothing to look at by day.

How much track do I need for my house?

Measure the runs you want lit rather than the whole perimeter. A front elevation is usually about 120 to 150 ft and a full wrap of the main roofline about 200 to 300 ft, and most homes land between 120 and 300 ft. Add 5 to 10 percent for mitred corners and cuts.

Does the track fit the Govee lights I already have?

If they are Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights, yes — pick the profile that matches the kit. Original, v2 and Elite share one profile and Pro has its own, and they are not interchangeable. The model number on the box tells you which you have.

What color can I get the track in?

Any RAL Classic color. It is powder-coated before it ships and you approve a proof of the color, lengths and quantities about two working days after you order. Corner and end caps come in white or black.

Can I install it myself?

Most people can. It is hand tools and a ladder: screw the base to the fascia, clip the lights into the openings, snap the cover down over the wiring. Height and a complicated roofline are the reasons to hire it out, not difficulty.

Is it returnable if I change my mind?

60-day returns on unopened standard (in-stock) products in original packaging. Custom orders are final sale once you approve the production proof. They are refunded only if they arrive defective or we sent the wrong product. Damage in shipping, damage after delivery and a change of mind are not refunded. Track coated to your color is made for your house, which is why the proof is there to approve first.

What is covered by the warranty?

Two years on Lumeva track and Lumeva lights. Govee lights carry their own manufacturer warranty from Govee rather than from us, even when they are mounted in our track.
