How to Mount Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights
There are four ways to mount Govee permanent outdoor lights: the clips that come in the box, adhesive, a plastic or 3D-printed channel, or an aluminum track. Clips and adhesive need no extra parts, but the cable stays on the surface and the spacing is only as even as you place it. A channel encloses the wiring and fixes the spacing in the part itself. An aluminum track does that and can be powder-coated to the color of your trim, so it reads as part of the house by day.
Which one is right depends on how permanent you want the result to look. For a temporary run, the clips in the box are the whole job. For lights that stay up all year and are seen in daylight far more often than they are lit, what decides how the install looks is whether the wiring is hidden and whether the lights sit on one straight line.
Lumeva makes extruded aluminum track for Govee lights. This page compares the four mounting methods on what each one actually does. If you already know you want track and only need the profile that fits your kit, go straight to the fit guide.
- Four mounting methods compared on what each one does
- Aluminum track encloses the wiring under a snap-on cover
- Punched openings set the light spacing, so runs stay even
- Powder-coated to any RAL Classic color to match your trim
- One flat $3.11/ft at every length from 100 to 600 ft
- 2-year Lumeva warranty on the track
What holds the lights to the house
Clips and adhesive differ in one way that matters: a clip is fastened to the fascia, while adhesive relies on its bond to the surface, so that surface has to be clean, smooth and sound for it to hold. A track moves the question somewhere else again — the lights clip into the track, and the track is screwed to the house, so nothing is carried by an adhesive bond at all.
- Adhesive depends on the surface it is stuck to
- Clips and track are mechanically fastened with screws
- With track, the lights press into the channel rather than onto the house
What happens to the wiring
This is usually what separates an install that looks built-in from one that looks added on. With clips or adhesive, the cable between each light stays on the outside of the fascia. A channel covers some or all of it, depending on how the part is designed. Lumeva track is two pieces: the base takes the screws and the wiring, and a cover snaps on over the top, so from the street only the light itself shows.
Keeping the run straight
With clips or adhesive you set the spacing yourself, light by light, from a ladder. Small differences add up along a long run, and they show most when the lights are off. A track removes the measuring: the openings are punched into the extrusion at a fixed pitch, so the lights land where the part puts them.
Govee makes more than one light spacing, so the track comes in more than one profile. Which profile fits which kit is set out on the fit guide, by the name on the box and by model number.
Matching the track to the house
Track is powder-coated in-house to the RAL Classic color you pick, so it blends into fascia, soffit or gutters instead of outlining them. Before anything is cut or coated we email a proof of the color, lengths and quantities for you to approve. On the retail store the color match is included in the price.
Lumeva track has been approved by more than 300 HOAs across the country, and we provide custom HOA approval packets for homeowners and installers to submit with their request.
Ordering, shipping and returns
Track is sold by the foot at one flat $3.11/ft from 100 to 600 ft. Standard shipping is free nationwide (except Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, where it is quoted at checkout).
60-day returns on unopened standard (in-stock) products in original packaging. Custom orders are final sale once you approve the production proof. They are refunded only if they arrive defective or we sent the wrong product. Damage in shipping, damage after delivery and a change of mind are not refunded.
Govee mounting options compared
What each method does by construction. Nothing in this table is a lifespan estimate or a test result — that would need testing we have not done.
| Mounting method | How it attaches | Wiring | Light spacing | Color |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clips supplied with the lights | Small clips fixed along the fascia | Cable runs along the surface between lights | Set by where you place each clip | As supplied |
| Adhesive | Bonded to the surface, no fasteners | Cable runs along the surface between lights | Set by where you stick each light | As supplied |
| Plastic, PVC or 3D-printed channel | Usually screwed; varies by product | Enclosed in part or in full, depending on the design | Fixed by the channel | Paintable; finish varies with the material |
| Lumeva aluminum track | A 6063-T5 base screwed to the fascia or soffit | Fully enclosed under a snap-on cover | Fixed by openings punched in the extrusion | Powder-coated to any RAL Classic color |
Clips and adhesive come with the lights, so they add nothing to the cost. A channel or a track is a separate purchase.
What the track costs

Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to mount Govee permanent outdoor lights?
It depends on how permanent the result needs to look. For a short-term run, the clips supplied with the lights are enough on their own. For lights meant to stay up all year, an aluminum track is the option that encloses the wiring, fixes the spacing in the part and can be color-matched to the trim, so the installation reads as part of the house in daylight.
Do I have to use the clips that come with the lights?
No. The clips are one way to mount them. The lights can also be mounted in a channel or an aluminum track, which is what people fit when they want the cable hidden and the spacing set by the part rather than measured by hand.
Can I mount Govee lights with adhesive only?
Adhesive mounting is possible, and it is the quickest option because there is nothing to fasten. The trade-off is that the hold depends on the surface it is bonded to, and the cable between the lights stays on show. A screwed base does not depend on that bond.
Is a 3D-printed or plastic channel the same as an aluminum track?
They do the same job in principle — hold the lights and cover the cable — but they are different parts made from different materials, and how much of the wiring is enclosed varies by design. Our comparison of aluminum against plastic, PVC and 3D-printed channel goes through what the material changes.
Which track fits my Govee lights?
Govee uses more than one light spacing, so there is more than one track profile. The fit guide lists every Govee kit by the name on the box and by its model number, with the profile that ships for it. Order by the name and the right profile is sent.
Can the track be matched to my trim color?
Yes. It is powder-coated in-house to any RAL Classic color before it ships, and you approve a proof of the color, lengths and quantities before anything is cut or coated. On the retail store the color match is included in the price.
Is the track covered by a warranty?
The track carries a 2-year Lumeva warranty. The Govee lights are Govee’s product and carry Govee’s own warranty, which we neither extend nor administer.
Can I return the track?
60-day returns on unopened standard (in-stock) products in original packaging. Custom orders are final sale once you approve the production proof. They are refunded only if they arrive defective or we sent the wrong product. Damage in shipping, damage after delivery and a change of mind are not refunded.
